Our Story

A Mission Born from Compassion

First Breath Trust is a community-based organization established in Jinja, Uganda, with a mission to provide holistic care and rehabilitation to children born and abandoned on the streets, those from teenage mothers, children of street families, and those born to mentally ill parents.

The organization seeks to offer a safe haven for newborns and infants while supporting their mothers through counseling, rehabilitation, and life skills training.

Our project aims to establish a Child Care and Rehabilitation Centre that will provide shelter, medical care, education, and psychosocial support, ensuring that every child has a dignified beginning in life and every vulnerable mother is empowered to rebuild her future.

The Challenge

The Problem We Address

Uganda faces a rising challenge of children being abandoned, neglected, or forced to live on the streets due to poverty, teenage pregnancies, family breakdown, and mental health issues among mothers.

In Jinja, many children are born on the streets without access to medical care, proper nutrition, or shelter. Teenage mothers and mentally challenged mothers often lack family support, leaving their children highly vulnerable to malnutrition, disease, abuse, and exploitation.

While several organizations exist to support street children, very few focus on infants born under such vulnerable circumstances and the rehabilitation of their mothers. This leaves a critical gap that First Breath Trust seeks to fill.

Offer shelter, nutrition, and medical care to abandoned and at-risk babies.

Support Vulnerable Mothers

Provide counseling, rehabilitation, and guidance to teenage and vulnerable mothers.

Equip for Self-Reliance

Train mothers in vocational and life skills for long-term independence.

Advocate for Child Rights

Create awareness about child abandonment and advocate for child protection rights.
